I am the ELL Coordinator for a program that serves 25-40 students from 8-12 countries. We run a TPI program with sheltered classes and tutoring support. My other main interest is in critical thinking and how that impacts the high school English classroom. In order to help students learn critical thinking skills, I focus my instruction on asking students to think explicity and metacognitively about the way they approach each reading and writing task. I use journals to require students to make their thinking about a text explicit. I teach writing with a focus on process and helping students develop original arguments on topics where they have curiosity and some authority. I currently teach AP English Language and Composition.
